Spiders Honored at Annual Scholar Athlete Breakfast

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The balance of a busy academic schedule with athletic obligations is always a challenge to find.
Student-athletes at the University of Richmond continue to rise to that challenge, excelling in both areas during their careers as Spiders.
The Richmond Athletic Department honored the best of the best on Tuesday morning, hosting its annual Scholar Athlete Breakfast at the Jepson Alumni Center. Over 50 student-athletes were honored, including the top scholars from each team and the top performing teams.
The men's cross country team continues its excellence in the classroom, earning the Men's Team Academic Award once again after taking home the honor in 2016. The squad finished the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.45 team grade point average, and has not had a GPA lower than 3.31 for the past nine semesters.
The women's tennis team took home the Women's Team Academic Award after finishing the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.57 grade point average. The team has boasted a 3.54 GPA over the last five years.
Also honored were four student-athletes who excelled in their respective schools.
Senior Hannah Cornman of the women's soccer team was honored as the top student-athlete in the School of Arts & Sciences, while senior women's cross country and track & field runner Haley Preschutti earned recognition as the top student-athlete in the Robins School of Business. Redshirt Junior football All-American Griffin Trau was honored as the top student-athlete in the Jespon School of Leadership Studies.
The day's biggest honor, Scholar Athlete of the Year, was presented to senior women's cross country and track & field athlete Kylie Regan. Regan boasts the top cumulative GPA of all senior student-athletes, and is completing her degree in Business Administration with dual concentrations in both Finance and Economics and a minor in Healthcare Studies.
