11/21/2017 | Men's Basketball
GEORGETOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS – Freshman point guard Jacob Gilyard scored in double-figures for the third time in the first four games, but it wasn't enough as the 12th-ranked Bearcats of Cincinnati got by the University of Richmond men's basketball team, 75-48, to reach the finals of the first-ever Cayman Classic.
Richmond showed its balance with five players scoring at least six points on the night, including six points and seven rebounds from All-Atlantic 10 preseason pick De'Monte Buckingham.
Redshirt junior Khwan Fore, who had missed the first three games of the season, got his first action of the year, playing 14 minutes on the night.
11 different players saw action on the night, including freshman Nathan Cayo, who played a season-high 23 minutes, scoring six points and grabbing two rebounds.
The Spiders defense forced the Bearcats into 20 turnovers on the night, but Cincinnati shot 55-percent from the field, including 13 three-pointers to make it tough for Richmond in the contest.
Richmond will face-off against the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana tomorrow in the third-place game of the Cayman Classic. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
