UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Gifts won't be the only thing that several members of the University of Richmond football team will be receiving this holiday season.
Seniors Kyle Lauletta and Alex Light, along with junior Andrew Clyde, all received All-American honors this week. Lauletta was named Second Team by Phil Steele and Third Team by STATS FCS, while Clyde (STATS FCS) and Light (Phil Steele) earned Third Team accolades.
It marks the fourth consecutive season that Richmond has had multiple student-athletes earn All-American accolades. In total, 16 Spiders have been recognized nationally over the past four years.
Lauletta made a remarkable comeback from a serious knee injury to post a record-setting season for the Spiders. The senior completed 281-of-433 passes for 3,737 yards and 28 touchdowns and also ran for four TD's. Lauletta ranked third in FCS in passing yards (353.9 ypg), fifth in total offense (347.9 ypg), fifth in passing TD's and 13th in pass efficiency (153.2), all of which led the CAA. He threw for over 300 yards in eight of 11 games and his passing yardage and touchdown totals set UR single-season records. Lauletta, who is one of 25 finalists for the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in FCS football, became Richmond's career passing leader and ranks fourth in CAA history with 10,465 yards. Lauletta finishes his career with three straight All-CAA accolades (second team in 2015, 2016).
Light anchored an offensive line that helped the Spiders lead the CAA in passing yards (341.0 ypg) and total offense (452.7 ypg). He finished his career making 38 consecutive starts and played two positions for Richmond this year.
Clyde led a defensive line that set a school record with 3.2 sacks per game (36 on the year). He tied for the CAA lead in sacks with 9.0 on the year, while piling 41 total tackles, 11 of which were for a loss. He also led the team with seven QB hurries.
