Ritten Earns Freshman All-American Honors

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Those around redshirt freshman Colby Ritten know that he's fairly quiet.
On the football field, it's a different story and that was evident this past fall for the University of Richmond football program, where Ritten started all 11 games for the Spiders on the defensive line.
Ritten's outstanding performance this year earned him HERO Sports Freshman All-American honors.
The Orlando, Fla. native tied with 57 tackles from the defensive tackle position, 9.5 of those were tackles behind the line of scrimmage, including four sacks on the year. He also had two QB hurries, one forced fumble and a blocked kick at Delaware, that forced overtime.
Ritten's emergence was part of a Spiders' defensive line effort that tallied 35 sacks in 11 games (3.18 per game average). It was the highest sack per game average in program history.
It's the second straight year that a Spider has earned Freshman All-American honors with Deontez Thompson being recognized last season.
