UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's track & field team was spread out this weekend but came away with some memorable individual performances in the final tune-ups before the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Fairfax next weekend.
Let's start with Amanda Corbosiero, who continued her renaissance spring season with an incredible showing in the Boston Mile at the David Hemery Invitational hosted by Boston University of Friday afternoon. The junior rolled to a 4:41.56 with splits of 68-2:18-3:29-1500m 4:21 en route to her mile time. As of Friday afternoon that time ranks atop the Atlantic 10, second all-time in Richmond program history, 26th in the nation and 29th among competitors in the U.S. This all comes on the heels of a historic showing last week that earned her Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week recognition.
In Roanoke at the Finn Pincus Invite, Sarah Timko was the highlight, clearing 3.13m to claim the Pole Vault title, her first such title this spring. Freshman Gabby Bowen had the top showing on the track with a third-place post in the 400m (1:02.74), less than three seconds behind the winner.
Morgan Towe, a freshman, clocked in at 8.13 in the 60m dash, good for a 12th-place finish in the event. Towe had to battle through prelims and a semifinal to reach the final of the hotly contested event. Towe also picked up a 10th-place finish in the 200m with a time of 27.64. Following close behind in the 200 was sophomore Chloe Smith who finished 14th, clocking in at 27.95. Smith also grabbed a top-10 finish in the 400m with a time of 1:04.21.
In the distance events, Emma Nowak was strong in the mile, finishing in 5:24.71 to take the third position while Erika Echternach placed second in the 3000m with a time of 10:43.77.
