Spiders Run National Marks in the Armory Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team continued its steady improvement when it took to the indoor track at the NYC Armory invitational over the weekend. The Spiders were paced by outstanding performances by Amanda Corbosiero and Marissa Ruskan, both of which achieved nationally ranked marks.
Corbosiero redshirted the fall cross country season after an early season injury and has returned to form for the indoor season and it showed this weekend. She clocked a time of 2:44.52 in the 1000m race, finishing fourth overall in the event with a time that currently ranks sixth in the NCAA, tops in the Atlantic 10 by eight seconds and now ranks second in Richmond history. Additionally, Corbosiero's time is the fastest 1,000M time in the NCAA for the week of January 30 through February 5.
Ruskan is showing the form that helped her claim the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Mile. She picked up the overall win in the invitational mile with a time of 4:53.40. As they do at the NYC Armory, they captured FAT splits at 1500M where she went through in 4:34.18, which currently ranks fifth in the NCAA.
Junior, Shebly Cain was the only other Spider to claim a top-5 finish with her third place performance in the 5k (16:56.86) It was a personal best and her first time under the 17 minute mark. Her time currently ranks first within the Atlantic 10 Conference. Sophomore, Ave Grosenheider also set a personal best mark with her seventh-place finish in the 5k (17:29.64).
Sprint sensation Mary Allen returned to action after suffering a collision on the track 2 weeks ago. She ran in three events, highlighted by a 57.12 in the 400m that was good for seventh overall. Freshman Maria Acosta continued to shine with an eight-place finish in the 500m (1:17.24).
Along with Corbosiero, Junior Haley Preschutti clocked a personal best time of 2:54.45. Preschutti's time ranks as the 9th best 1,000M performance in the NCAA for the week of January 30 through February 5.
Sophomore, Colleen Carney continues to build on her breakthrough cross country season. She also set a personal best running the 3k in 9:55.45 which placed 20th in the event.
