Holiday (why)?: 4th of July, my whole family goes to Maine for a few days. There are beach races, we make tons of food, have lots of people in our house, play beach football and watch the Red Sox. It's always been my favorite day of the year.
Â
Other Questions:
What's one thing not a lot of people know about you?: I can't smell, I was born with anosmia so I don't have a sense of smell.
Where's spot in the entire world you would like to visit that you haven't?: I want to backpack Thailand.
Age you started playing soccer: Three or four, I cried the whole way there. My dad carried me out of the car and just put me down with all the other kids practicing, and by the end I was the last one there. I never wanted to leave.
What has been one of your most exciting memories with your Spider Family so far?: Going to A-10s freshmen year. The bus ride, preparation, excitement to be competing when it was a do or die situation. I want to get back to that.
Before each game I…: Brush my teeth a bunch of times. I feel so gross if I go into a game without doing it, I don't know why.
If you were granted one wish, what you want it to be?: That injuries weren't a thing.
If you could have dinner with any one celebrity, who and why?: Matt Damon, I feel like he'd be a cool guy to hang out with.
Starbucks or Dunkin?: I don't drink coffee, but I'm from New England so Dunkin.
Most famous person you've met (where and when): Heather O'Reilly at a Boston Breakers game when I was in high school.
Dream job: Analytics for a professional sports team, or practicing law.
Hobbies/Interests: I really like to run outside of soccer, I want to do the Boston Marathon someday. I also like hiking because I grew up near mountains at home. Snowboarding and skiing are really fun too. And I love watching movies, I could watch ten in a day and be super content.
Do you have a nickname the team calls you?: Mauve, Maverick, Maevey, Maevey Wavey, I've been called Maevelinne a couple times. I feel like having a weird name opens you up to having a lot of nicknames.
Ideal temperature in your house?: 68, cold is better.
Greatest invention of the last 100 years: Netflix and movie theaters, thank you to the people who did those things.
Apple or Android?: Apple.
For me, I love playing soccer because: It kind of transcends age and space. I feel the same way playing now away from home as I did when I was little playing in my backyard. There's something comforting about having something that constant.
Greatest inspiration: My parents.
Cat, dog, or turtle?: Dog but I do love turtles. I don't dislike cats, but cats dislike me.
Biggest fear: Any movie that's intended to be scary, haunted houses, I don't mess with that. Which surprises people because I've been told I look intimidating, but I'll never willingly watch a horror movie or pay to go to haunted house. I'd pee my pants, no thanks.
If you were stranded on island, what 3 things would you chose to have with you?: A soccer ball, food, and my family. They're my best friends, and my siblings are the most entertaining people I know. I wouldn't need Netflix, they're hysterical.
What's your 10 year plan?: Unsure, but hopefully it will involve me owning a dog. Or if I'm really successful, multiple dogs.
Why did you come to Richmond?: It's an incredible academic school, I really liked the coaching staff, and I wanted to explore beyond New England.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?: Freeze time, or make it slow down. So if I have a ton to do I can get it done, or if I'm having a really awesome day I can delay it ending.
Least favorite household chore: When I was little it was vacuuming my stairs at home. We have the oldest, heaviest vacuum cleaner known to man and I always felt like it was a life-or-death struggle carrying it all the way up.
Do you prefer to grab your next piece of toilet paper over or under the roll?: Over, obviously.
Where do you like sitting on the bus for road trips?: Window seat, preferably by myself so I can stretch out and sleep.
If you somehow inherited Bill Gates's fortune, what would you do with it?: Work on ending world hunger. That sounds cliché, but I feel like there's more than enough resources to go around there just has to be more people who have the money to do something about it. If I had money left over, I'd buy my parents season tickets for all the Boston sports teams. They're wicked big fans, and they brought me to games all the time growing up so I'd want to pay them back.
