
Spiders Have Strong Showing Among Elite Competition at XC Challenge

CARY, N.C. – After a short break from action, the Spider cross country team traveled down to North Carolina to compete against some elite competition in the southeast at the adidas XC Challenge.
The men's 6K race kicked off the event with senior Johnny Hogue leading the Spiders with an 18th place finish. Hogue clocked in at 18:38.4 on the 6K course. Sophomore Miles Clikeman wasn't far behind turning in a time of 18:42.7 for 21st overall.
Sophomore Seamus Otto finished at 20:20.3 while freshman Trey Burleson made his debut for the Spiders crossing the line close behind at 20:29.1, and sophomore Will Alpaugh (20:55.2) rounding out the scoring for Richmond.
As a team the men finished seventh out of 13 teams with 208 points.
Much like the first race of the season, senior Amanda Corbosiero paced the Richmond women. Corbosiero crossed the line at 17:53.7 in 16th place, finishing just ahead of sophomore Peyton McGovern (17:54.2) who placed 18th.
A small pack of Spiders crossed the finish line within seconds of each other as senior Shelby Cain (17:57.0), junior Colleen Carney (17:59.3) and sophomore Claire Brown (18:00.7) finished in 22nd through 24th place, respectively.
With five runners in the top-25, the Richmond women finished fourth out of 13 teams with 94 points.
Senior Kylie Regan (18:01.5), and juniors Eryn Mills (18:07.1), Ave Grosenheider (18:11.5) and Jordan Angers (18:37.5) finished inside the top 50. Freshman Caroline Robelen (19:01.3), sophomore Erika Echternach (19:16.7) and freshman Julia Willcox (19:58.4) also competed for the Spiders.
The Spiders will be back in action on Friday, September 29 when they travel north for the Paul Short Invitational.
