Men's Golf Wraps Up First Event of the Season

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's golf team began its season this week at the Janney VCU Shootout and competed against teams from the ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten as well as a few Atlantic 10 foes; ultimately battling to a 12th-place finish.
Sophomore Andrew Sciarretta and junior Ben Wanichek who fired scores of +1, 217 and +2, 218, respectively, led the Spiders. Wanichek came away with two round of -1, 71, matching his career-low score and broke his personal best for a tournament by five strokes. Sciarretta finished in a tie for 26th while Wanichek finished in a tie for 28th.
Zack Justice (+9, 225), Matthew Lowe (+10, 226) and freshman Andrew McInerney (+14, 230) rounded out the lineup. Freshman Michael Baker competed as an individual and close out his debut tournament with a +4, 220 to finish in a tie for 39th.
The team will be back out on the course competing at the Firestone Invitational (Oct. 2-3) in Akron, Ohio at Firestone Country Club.
