Spiders Fall to Hawks in A-10 Opener, 2-0

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team opened Atlantic 10 play on Thursday night at Robins Stadium, falling to reigning A-10 regular season champion Saint Joseph's, 2-0.
After a slow opening 15 minutes, both teams picked up the pace. The Spiders finished the opening stanza with seven shots, trailing the Hawks by just one shot attempt, but neither team could capitalize, finishing the half in a scoreless tie.
Saint Joseph's wasted no time in the second half, scoring in the 51st minute to take a 1-0 lead on a goal by Michaela Finneyfrock.
Nine minutes later, the Hawks struck again, this time on a deflection goal scored by Morgan Bower. Despite a good amount of possession in their offensive half, the Spiders were unable to find the back of the net, sending Saint Joseph's home with a 2-0 win.
The Hawks finished the game with an 18-14 shot advantage and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Katie Brennan finished with five saves in goal, including four in the opening half, while Lexi Prillaman led the Spiders with five shots.
Richmond hits the road for the next three contests, and will return to action this Sunday, September 24, at St. Bonaventure. Kickoff in Olean, New York, is set for 1 p.m.
