UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Following a stellar performance in goal this past week, University of Richmond women's soccer goalkeeper Olivia Sjodin has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week.
Â
Sjodin had an outstanding week for the Spiders, logging her first two career starts at Maryland and No. 3 Virginia. The Gavle, Sweden, native allowed just two goals in a pair of 1-0 losses while stopping 19 shots in the process. Her 12-save performance against the Cavaliers was just four saves shy of the single-game program record.
Â
"Olivia earned her first two college starts against Maryland and UVA, and made the most of her opportunity," head coach Peter Albright said of the rookie. "She was very steady, and made some key saves to keep us in both games. She was also generally quite good with her distribution."
Â
She faced 51 total shots in goal this week in 200 minutes of play, holding both the Terrapins and Cavaliers to under two goals for just the second time this season. The rookie averaged just .947 goals allowed over the 200-minute, two-game span.
Â
Sjodin now boasts a .77 goals against average and a .909 save percentage this season, totaling 20 saves on the year while facing 54 shots.
Â
"I have been impressed with Olle's resolve and demeanor as she adjusts to a new culture, language, country and style of soccer," Albright added. "We believe that she has the potential to become an exceptional keeper. "
Â
The Spiders return home on Thursday after a three-game road stretch, facing Elon at Robins Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
