Coach Taylor was happy with the performance saying, "I am just really proud of how the girls executed today - they really had their best team race of the season and this is just the beginning of the championship season. I am really excited for them and happy that they ran it together like a team, exactly like we talked about. And it really paid off. They not only won, but they won it with their best team performance today." Coach Taylor also gave a nod to the girls who have been battling injuries all season saying she was glad the team could come together the way it did for their championship performance.
Â
The top-5 finishers for the women collected a total of 41Â points ahead of second place Dayton with 94 and third place Fordham with 149. Senior Amanda Corbosiero led the Spiders taking fourth with a time of 17:24.2. She was closely followed by fellow senior Colleen Carney who came in fifth (17:29.6). The top Spider five was rounded out by junior Ave Grosenheider (17:38.8), senior Courtney Thompson (17:39.4) and junior Claire Brown (17:45.7) taking 9th, 10thand 13threspectively. All five of the Spiders' top finishers earned All-Atlantic 10 honors for their performances.Â
Corbosero says "I am so excited that we were able to get the title for my last A-10 cross country meet. We did really well and had a dominating performance and we really made a statement out there."Â
Â
This championship title marks the third in the past years and the sixth since the start of the program.  Since being tabbed in the pre-season poll to take second, the Spider women have shown great development and dedication throughout the season, competing against competitors from across the nation and representing their team and their school well.
Â
While the A-10 championship may be over and won, the cross country season isn't yet. The Spiders will again take to the courses at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Sock Hill, Sc. On November 9th
