Sherod To Miss Remainder Of Season With Knee Injury
11/26/2018 | Men's Basketball
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior guard Nick Sherod will miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee Sunday against Hampton, head coach Chris Mooney announced Monday.
"I'm just heartbroken for Nick. He's worked so hard since he arrived at Richmond and to see his season end like this is really difficult. Replacing a veteran player with Nick's ability and experience isn't going to be easy, but this opens the door for some younger players to step up and really contribute over the remainder of the season."
Sherod was injured on a drive to the basket with five minutes remaining in the first half Sunday while making his 54th straight start for the Spiders. Last season, Sherod led Richmond in scoring during A-10 play, averaging 17.6 points per game against conference opponents. He is the Spiders active leader in career starts (56), minutes (1,955), points (797), and rebounds (273).
