UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Spiders basketball sophomore Grant Golden was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Golden averaged 21 points and 11.5 rebounds in games against Old Dominion and High Point last week, recording a double-double in each game. It's Golden's first career A-10 Player of the Week Award and the fourth time he's won an A-10 weekly honor after winning three A-10 Rookie of the Week Awards last season.
Golden led Richmond with 23 points and 11 rebounds December 19 against Old Dominion as the Spiders built an eight-point second half lead before falling late to the Monarchs. It was Golden's 16th career 20-point game and his 11 boards tied a career high.
December 22 against High Point, Golden scored 19 points and grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds for his 10th career double-double and second of the week as the Spiders defeated the Panthers 74-59.
For the week, Golden shot 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. He also made 77 percent of his free-throw attempts (10 of 13) after entering the week shooting 60 percent from the free-throw line this season.
Golden is the Spiders leading scorer and rebounder in 2018-19, averaging 19.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest. He's one of just 15 players in Division I averaging at least 19 points and seven rebounds while shooting 50 percent or better from the field this season.
Golden and the rest of the Spiders will return to the court on Saturday at South Alabama. The game will tip at 4:00 PM ET and be streamed on ESPN Plus.
