Spiders Return Home Against Howard

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team returns home to Robins Center for a non-conference matchup against Howard on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.
The Spiders have lost four-straight games and are hoping to snap their losing streak going for their second-straight home win after a 57-55 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore back on Nov. 14.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell to 1-7 on the season after dropping a road game at William & Mary, 65-55, on Wednesday, Dec. 5. The Spiders cut the Tribe's lead to three points at 55-52 with 4:48 remaining but were outscored 10-3 to end the game.
Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench. Daijia Ruffin led the team with 16 points and a career-high five steals. Alex Parson added nine points and four steals.
UR shot a season-high 38 percent from the field off 19-for-50 and came away with a season-high 14 steals leading to 19 fast break points. The Tribe used a strong third quarter to take a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter after outscoring Richmond, 22-16. William & Mary led the entire game with the game only tied once in the first quarter with the score 9-9. The Spiders have lost four-straight games.
STARTING LINEUPS
The Spiders have had six different starting lineups in their eight games and only one has started all eight games in sophomore Alex Parson. Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke has started seven of eight games. Freshmen Emma Squires and Molly Mraz have started five games, Daijia Ruffin and Jayana Ervin have started four games. Freshman Aniyah Carpenter has started three games, junior Amy Duggan with two starts along with Imani Mustaf and Kailyn Fee making their first starts at William & Mary. With so many new faces, Richmond hasn't had a set rotation having played 14 different players this season.
HOT FREE THROW SHOOTING AGAINST THE TRIBE
The Spiders shot a season-high 81.3 percent from the free throw line going 13-for-16 in the 65-55 loss at William & Mary. Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke went 5-for-6, Daijia Ruffin was 4-of-6, Amy Duggan and Claire Holt both went 2-for-2. It was the best Richmond has shot at the free throw line since a road game at St. Bonaventure on Feb. 14 last season.
RUFFIN PROVIDING SPARK
Graduate student Daijia Ruffin has scored 57 of her 63 points in her last five games, including a season-high 17 points against Maryland Eastern Shore. Ruffin was inserted into the starting lineup for the past three games and has scored 17, 12, 2 and 10 points. The Louisville, Ky. native led the team with 16 points off the bench at William & Mary. She is averaging 11.4 points per game in her last five games and has dished out 15 assists (3.0 per game). Ruffin is third on the team in scoring at 7.9 points per game.
LAST TIME VS. HOWARD
The last time these two teams met the Spiders earned a 78-70 comeback win on the road on Dec. 21, 2005. Richmond holds a perfect 4-0 record against the Bison and fell behind by 15 points at halftime before the Spiders made a comeback. Former Spiders Kelly Roche, Alison Mitchell and DeUnna Hendrix each scored in double figures. UR had a strong second half on the board outrebounding the Bison 26-12.
