KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The University of Richmond women's golf team kicked off its spring schedule with a trip to the Kiawah Island Classic this week and in a loaded field finished 23rd overall out of 43 teams.
The Spiders posted scores of 302-301-316, 919 to finish +55 as a group on perhaps the toughest track it has played on so far this season. It was also the first event of the season that saw its three rounds played over three days, rather than two.
Sophie DiPetrillo continued her solid junior season by posting scores of 76-73-74, 223 to finish +7 overall and in a tie for 32nd on the individual leaderboard. Annie Collom matched her season-best round of +1, 73 in the first round of the event and freshman Lizzie Reedy continued her breakout campaign with scores of 76-74-77, 227 to finish +11 and in a tie for 58th overall.
The next event for the Spiders will be at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate where the group will play three rounds over three days at Pinehurst No. 8. Pinehurst has been home to competitive women's golf since the first Women's North & South Amateur in 1903. With champions that include the greatest players in the history of the women's game – Babe Zaharias, Peggy Kirk Bell, Yani Tseng, Morgan Pressel and Michelle Wie among them – the tradition of the North & South, the U.S. Women's Amateur and the U.S. Women's Open will continue with Pinehurst's Women's Intercollegiate Championship.
