Spiders Drop Series Opener to Stetson Friday Night, 5-2

DELAND, Fla. – The Spider Baseball opened their spring break road trip to the Sunshine State going toe-to-toe with Stetson on Friday night. Despite battling back from a three-run deficit, the Spiders fell to Stetson, 5-2.
It was much a pitcher's duel through the first four frames. Tim Miller retired six consecutive batters and punched out four. Stetson (11-1) however, was able to break up the zeros on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth with three runs.
Stetson's lead was short-lived as the Spiders (7-5) responded in the sixth by cutting SU's lead to one. An RBI single from Kyle Schmidt droved in Vinny Capra and Daniel Brumbaugh scored on a passed ball to make a 3-2 ball game.
Collin Lowe came on in relief of Miller in the sixth and sent the Hatters down in order. In the seventh, Stetson added two to take a 5-2 lead that the Spiders couldn't overcome as the Hatters shut down any opportunity for a late rally.
The Spiders will continue the series with Stetson tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
