04/10/2018 | Men's Basketball
RICHMOND, V.A. -- Blake Francis, who averaged more than 17 points per game for Wagner College of the Northeast Conference last season, has signed with the University of Richmond and will join the Spiders. Per NCAA regulations, Francis will sit out the 2018-19 season and enter the 2019-20 season with two years of eligibility remaining. He chose the Spiders over a group of schools that included St. Bonaventure and Loyola-Chicago, among others.Â
Francis is coming off a standout sophomore season at Wagner in which he led the Seahawks in scoring at more than 17 points per game while setting the program's single-season record for three-pointers, with 102. Behind Francis, Wagner went 23-10 last season and won the Northeast Confererence regular-season title before falling to LIU-Brooklyn in the conference championship. The Seahawks were selected to play in the NIT, where Francis scored a team-high 23 points in an opening-round loss to Baylor University.Â
Francis named a Second Team All-NEC selection last month and also earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 18 Second Team.Â
As a freshman at Wagner during the 2016-17 season, Francis appeared in 28 games and started three, scoring 7.2 points per game and making 42 percent of his three-point attempts, the second-best rate in the conference.Â
Francis is a graduate from Westfield High School in Chantilly, V.A., where he led the Bulldogs to a 6A state title as a senior in 2016 while averaging more than 20 points per game. He graduated as the leading scorer in program history and was an All-State selection following his junior and senior seasons.Â
