04/21/2018 | Women's Golf
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Richmond women's golf team will sleep Saturday night on a tie for first place at the 2018 Patriot League Championship, alongside host Navy, and will be in search of a third consecutive title when it takes the course on Sunday morning.
Â
The Spiders fired rounds of 321 and 314, matching Navy in those same rounds exactly to post a total score of +59, 635, 12 shots clear of third place Bucknell and 16 shots clear of 2017 runner-up Boston University.
Leading the charge for the Spiders was Sophie DiPetrillo who posted scores of 80 and 76 en route to holding the third overall spot on the individual standings. She rests just four shots back of the leader, Morgan Frazier of Navy. Fellow junior Annie Collom sleeps on a +14, 158 performance that was good enough to place her just behind Sophie in a tie for fourth overall. Together, Collom and DiPetrillo tied for the most birdies in the field at six.
Â
Freshman Lizzie Reedy, making her first appearance in this event, shot rounds of 79 and 80 for a +15, 159 total that was good for a tie for sixth overall. Reedy is the third of five Spiders to land in the top 10 after day one. Elsa Diaz joined that group with a +18, 162 performance and the returning Isabella Rusher matched that with a pair of 81's in her first action since the Cardinal Cup in late October.
Â
Rusher was fourth overall among the field with 19 pars while leading the field in stroke average on the Par 3's. Her teammates combined to shoot an average of 4.54 on Par 4's and 5.15 on Par 5's, both tops among the field. The Spiders also boasted five more birdies (19) than the rest of the field.
Â
Tee times tomorrow morning begin at 8:30 a.m. with freshman Ally Steffen leading things off. The leaders will hit the course at 9:20.
