McInerney Paces Spiders at First Round of A-10 Men's Golf Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond men's golf team began its defense of its Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday morning at the Grand Cypress Resort North & South courses and showed well, positioning itself for a run at a second-consecutive title this weekend.
The Spiders rest on Friday night in fourth place in the team competition after firing a +16, 304, just one shot back of VCU (+15, 303), and four shots back of both Davidson and Dayton (+12, 300). George Mason and Saint Joseph's trail, one shot back of the Spiders in a tie for fifth with Rhode Island (+20), Fordham (+23) and George Washington (+29) lurking in that second tier of the leaderboard.

Individually, Spider freshman Andrew McInerney rose to the occasion in his first A-10 Championship action, posting a +2, 74, the best of any Spider to settle into a tie for sixth overall with Matthew Lowe close behind in a tie for 11th after closing out a +3, 75. Andrew Sciarretta (+5, 77) is tied for 21st overall and Zack Justice (+6, 78) is tied for 23rd after this pair tied for second overall at this event as freshmen a season ago.

Ben Wanichek (+11) will lead off the Spiders on Saturday morning with a 9 a.m. tee time followed by Justice at 9:09, Sciarretta at 9:18, Lowe at 9:27 and McInerney at 9:36. After making the rounds with La Salle and VCU on Friday the Spiders will be paired with players from Saint Joseph's and George Mason on Saturday.
