ORLANDO, Fla. – The second round of the 2018 Atlantic 10 men's golf championship came to a close on Saturday afternoon and through windy conditions the Spiders remained steady, settling into fifth place in the team competition. Meanwhile, senior Matthew Lowe climbed the individual leaderboard into a tie for fourth overall.
Â
The Spiders posted a +21, 309 to put the team at +37, 613 for the tournament, just one stroke back of VCU for fourth place but 21 shots back of leader Davidson which played unreal golf on Saturday.
Â
Lowe was stellar throughout the second round, at one point cruising along at two shots under par before settling for a +1, 73 effort that leaves him just four shots back of the leader, Mike Blasey from Davidson. Only three players in the field posted better rounds than Lowe who posted four birdies on Saturday.
Â
Andrew Sciarretta was the other bright spot for the Spiders. He fought off a seven on the seventh hole to post a +4, 76 and climb into a tie for 15th on the individual leaderboard. He improved by one stroke over Friday's round. Also improving was junior Ben Wanichek who shaved four strokes off Friday's score to post a +7, 79 on Saturday.
Â
The event will wrap up at Grand Cypress on Sunday with tee times getting started at 7:30 a.m.
