
Spiders Sweep Dukes to Advance to A-10 Semis

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team jumped out to an early lead over No. 4 seed Duquesne on Friday afternoon and didn't look back on its way to a 4-0 win in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Atlantic-10 Championship.
With the win, the Spiders advance to the A-10 Semifinals for the first time since 2015.
Dessi Zlateva and Lea Owens kicked things off with a 6-0 doubles win on court 3 over Duquesne's Laurel Shymansky and Ally Miller. The No. 1 duo of Emily Dunbar and Kiana Marshall then clinched the opening point for the Spiders with a 6-4 win over Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman.
Richmond continued its dominance in singles play, as Owens took a 6-3, 6-1 win on court 4 over Miller to extend the lead. Zlateva logged her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Shymansky on court 4, before senior Gaby Rosales clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court 5 over Maddy Adams.
The Spiders will face crosstown rival VCU for the second time in as many weeks, with first serve set for 1 p.m. at the USTA National Campus. The Rams took a narrow 4-3 win on April 18 over the Spiders.
