09/17/2018 | Football
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond senior wide receiver Dejon Brissett (Mississauga, Ontario) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning. Brissett becomes the first Spider to earn CAA Special Teams weekly honors since Griffin Trau garnered accolades in 2016 (Oct. 17).
Brissett led the Spiders to their second victory of the season, with a come-from-behind win at Saint Francis Thursday night. He returned three kickoffs for 182 yards, averaging 60.7 yards per kick. He got things going with a bang in Loretto, Pa., returning a kick 94-yards for a touchdown in the first half for his first career kickoff return for a touchdown. The return marked the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Spider since Justin Grant returned one against VMI in 2012.
Brissett leads the FCS this season in kick return average at 51.5 yards per attempt. He also returned a kick 52 yards and 36 yards against the Red Flash. He finished the game with 286 all-purpose yards as he hauled in nine receptions for 104 yards.
Brissett and the Spiders open CAA play this Saturday on the road as they travel to Long Island for a meeting against Stony Brook. The game will be the Spiders' third road game out of the first four this season and is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
