HENRICO, Va. -- Monday's heavy rains and strong winds forced the cancelation of Richmond's season-opening Janney Invitational on Tuesday. The Richmond area experienced flash flooding and tornadoes on Monday afternoon as the remnants of Hurricane Florence came through the area.Â
Play was suspended at 10:56 AM Monday due to heavy rains, approximately two hours into the first round. The Spiders were tied for fourth in the 11-team field when play was stopped with a combined score of even par, four strokes behind tournament leaders Maryland. On the individual leaderboard, sophomore Michael Baker was tied fo fourth at two-under par, having birdied two of his first four holes. Senior Ben Wanichek was tied for fifth at one-under through three holes.
The Spiders fall season will now officially begin next Monday at the two-day, 54-hole River Run Collegiate at River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C.
