Richmond Drops Road Game At Saint Joseph’s
09/27/2018 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team fell on the road at Saint Joseph's, 3-0, Thursday night at Sweeney Field.
"Tonight we simply weren't disciplined on set pieces and we didn't generate enough goal scoring opportunities," head coach Marty Beall said. "I felt our defending overall was good and we kept possession well, especially in the second half. We need to be more dynamic in the final third, especially against top teams like St. Joes."
In the first half, Saint Joseph's scored three first-half goals to lead 3-0 at halftime. The Hawks were recently ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches East Region rankings this past week.
The Hawks scored in the fourth minute as Michaela Finneyfrock fired a shot from the top of the box. In the 16th minute, Saint Joseph's added another goal off a corner kick as Hannah Racis headed it in.
In the 31st minute, Saint Joseph's scored again off a set piece with Aleksa Peev credited with her second goal of the season.
In the second half, Richmond kept the Hawks off the scoreboard as redshirt freshman Emily Wigg (Richmond, Va.) made four saves. Wigg finished with seven saves in the game.
In the 67th minute, sophomore Olivia Tripodi (Arlington, Va.) fired a shot on goal but Hawk's keeper Grace Brendon made the save.
The Spiders return home to host Saint Louis on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
