The Year Of Anniversaries For Spider Athletics

RICHMOND, Va. – The 2018-19 athletic season is a momentous year for the University of Richmond athletic department as the Spiders will celebrate multiple anniversaries throughout the year.
The 2018 football season marks the 10th anniversary of the Spiders' National Championship while also marking the 50th anniversary of the Spiders' Tangerine Bowl victory. The 2018-19 season will be the 100th year of Spider women's basketball.
The Richmond athletic department will celebrate all three anniversaries during their concurrent playing seasons. Spider fans will be able to relive those season with a special series on Richmond social media sites each week, while also having some selected material produced on www.richmondspiders.com.
Each one of the anniversaries will have a celebration surrounding a game this year to culminate the anniversary. The 50th anniversary of the Tangerine Bowl will be celebrated around the October 6 game against Delaware while the 10th anniversary of the National Championship team will be honored at the Nov. 10 game against Maine. The women's basketball 100th anniversary celebration will be surrounding an Atlantic 10 Conference game with a date announced at a later time.
Additionally, the University will be celebrating the 125th year of the Spider mascot in 2018-19. The Spider mascot is a point of pride for UR as Richmond is the only school in the country that calls itself Spiders.
