Tyler Dressler Named CAA Player Of The Week
10/14/2019 | Football
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond junior linebacker Tyler Dressler (Covington, Va.) was honored the Colonial Athletic Association Monday being named CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week. This marks the second-straight week the Spiders have earned CAA Defensive weekly honors, joining teammate Maurice Jackson (Levittown, Pa.) from last week.
Dressler led the Spiders to a 24-17 upset win on the road at No. 18 Maine Saturday afternoon. He recorded a career-high 20 tackles in the victory, including a key tackle for loss on the Black Bears final drive in the red zone. His 20 tackles are the most by any player in the NCAA FCS this season and the most by a player in the CAA since 2017 (Nate Hatalsky, UAlbany 21).
Dressler's 20 tackles are the most for a Richmond Spider in a single game since Darius McMillan recorded 20 tackles against William & Mary in 2011. The 20 tackles are the most in the NCAA FCS since October 6, 2018 when BJ Blunt of McNeese State also had 20 tackles. Dressler's play helped the Spiders post their second-straight CAA victory and their first win over a nationally ranked opponent since November 4, 2017 when Richmond shutout then 20th-ranked Villanova 22-0 on the road.
Dressler and the Spiders return home to Robins Stadium this weekend when they step out of CAA play to host Yale. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
