SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team gave up three first-half goals and couldn't recover in a 4-0 loss on the road at first-place Saint Louis Thursday night at Hermann Stadium.
Richmond (6-9-2, 3-6 A-10) only allowed one goal in the second half and generated 10 total shots but couldn't find the back of the net. Junior Katie Tritt (Fredericksburg, Va.), senior Brooke Beam (Dagsboro, Del.) and redshirt junior Alyssa Walker (Centerville, Ohio) each finished with two shots apiece.
In the first half, the Spiders had a shot get blocked as freshman Jessie Prillaman (Magnolia, Del.) was inside the box in the second minute. 30 seconds later, SLU struck first as Hannah Friedrich scored after her initial attempt hit the crossbar.
Saint Louis made it 2-0 after Friedrich scored her second goal of the game off a pass from Evie Lavelle in the fifth minute. In the 23rd minute, SLU added its third goal of the game as Brionna Halverson scored with Anna Lawler credited with the assist.
Freshman Alex Helbling (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) had four saves, including a couple from close range to limit the damage.
In the second half, Saint Louis scored its fourth goal in the 62nd minute off a corner kick tapped in by Alli Klug. Richmond was much more aggressive offensively with nine shots alone in the second half.
The Spiders got a late corner kick in the 86th minute and had a chance to score as a loose ball was kicked away inside the box.
Richmond will return home for Senior Day to face Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at President's Field at River Road.
