Women’s Tennis Adds Trio To 2020 Signing Class

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team has added three student-athletes in Carly Cohen (Pepper Pike, Ohio), Sara Salemyr (Stockholm, Sweden) and Polina Shitikova (Rybinsk, Russia) to the 2020 signing class, announced by head coach Mark Wesselink on Tuesday.
Cohen is a four-star recruiting according to TennisRecruiting.net and is ranked 89th nationally. Cohen is ranked fifth in Ohio and has earned a 35-24 record against other prospects. She holds a 15-8 mark against other four-star recruits.
In 2016, Cohen was the Doubles State Runner Up. She has played in numerous USTA tournaments and was a semifinalist at the 2019 USTA National L3. Cohen finished second in the Div. II state championship after falling in the championship match 6-4, 7-5 against Columbis Academy's Syndi Ratliff.
Shitikova is ranked 674th by the International Tennis Federation and has 62 career wins in singles and 32 career wins in doubles. Shitkova was ranked as high as 414 on July 23, 2018. In her last tournament in Russia, she made the doubles final after winning three doubles matches with her partner Alisa Budanova.
In 2018, Salemyr won a total of three golds at the SALK regional championships for juniors. Salemyr picked up three doubles wins at an ITF tournament in Kramfors, Sweden with partner Tuva Wallin. Since 2016, Salemyr has played in 17 ITF tournaments.
