Former Spider Riefner Named Midfielder Of The Year In Finland

RICHMOND, Va. – Former Spider women's soccer standout Ashley Riefner was awarded the 2019 Midfielder of the Year in the top professional league in Finland. Riefner was recognized at the Captain's ball gala.
Riefner plays for HJK Helsinki in the Naisten Liiga premier division in Finland. Riefner helped the club win the 2019 championship and is the only American player on the team. She finished with five goals in 19 matches this season. Riefner has been playing professional soccer since 2016 and has 16 career goals in Finland.
A four-year student-athlete with the Spiders, Riefner finished her career ninth all-time in scoring with 44 points (13 goals, 18 assists). She posted six game-winning goals and started 63 games in her career at Richmond.
Riefner is just the fourth Spider to play professionally joining Jaclyn Raveia ('01), Edda Gardarsdottir ('03) and Olina Vidarsdottir ('04).
