RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond redshirt junior quarterback Joe Mancuso (Blairsville, Ga.) was honored the Colonial Athletic Association Monday being named CAA Offensive Player of the Week. This marks the fourth Spider to earn CAA weekly honors this year and the first to win it on the offensive side of the ball.
Mancuso led the Spiders to their third win over a nationally ranked opponent this season with Richmond's 30-10 win over No. 20 Stony Brook Saturday on Homecoming at Robins Stadium. The victory keeps the Spiders in second place in the CAA with a 4-1 lead record, having won four-straight conference games.
Mancuso accounted for 406 total yards of offense in the win and had his hands in all four touchdowns. He completed 23-of-30 through the air for a season-high 318 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Mancuso also rushed for a team-high 88 yards on 16 carries and a pair of scores on the ground. His play helped the Spiders finish with a season-high 470 yards of total offense.
Mancuso has passed for 1,540 yards this season, despite not playing quarterback in two games for the Spiders. He has connected on 109-of-166 from the field and has passed for 10 touchdowns. On the ground, he leads the team with 499 yards rushing on 86 carries, scoring eight touchdowns on the ground. He leads all CAA quarterbacks in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Additionally, Mancuso is averaging 291.3 yards of total offense in his seven games at quarterback this year. That total ranks second among all league quarterbacks, trailing only Vito Priore of Rhode Island (300.4 yards per game).
Mancuso and the Spiders continue their tough CAA stretch on the road this week, travelling to nationally ranked Villanova. Game time Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
