Spiders Mourn Passing Of Hall Of Famer Lou Wacker

University of Richmond Hall of Famer Lou Wacker passed away Friday Feb. 15, 2019 at the age of 84. Mr. Wacker played football and ran track for the Spiders from 1952-55. He was an All-Conference and All-State running back and a defensive back who set a school record at the time for interceptions in a game with three against Wake Forest in 1954. He was a hurdler for the Spider track team.
Mr. Wacker went on to a long and distinguished football coaching career, first at Midlothian High School, then for 24 years as defensive coordinator at Hampden-Sydney, followed by 23 years as head coach at Emory & Henry where his teams were 164-76 with 11 ODAC titles and five post season appearances. Mr. Wacker was honored as coach of the year five times.
In addition to his induction into the University of Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992, he was also enshrined into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, and is a member of halls of fame at his high school alma mater, Highland Springs, as well as Hampden-Sydney and Emory and Henry.
 A celebration of life in memory of Mr. Wacker will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m., in Emory & Henry's Memorial Chapel.
