George Lovitt Honored With A-10 Player Of The Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior George Lovitt (Marvin, N.C.) went 2-0 in singles last week and was honored with the Atlantic 10 men's tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Lovitt, a Marvin, North Carolina native, led Richmond to two 4-3 wins on the road at Xaiver (Feb. 16) and at A-10 foe Dayton (Feb. 16) last weekend. Lovitt won in straight sets against Xavier's Connor LaFavre, 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

Lovitt picked up the clinching point in a 4-3 win at Dayton after a 6-2, 6-3 win against Steven Karl at No. 4 singles. Lovitt is 7-1 in singles and has won seven-straight matches after opening the season with a loss against VCU.

In doubles, Lovitt and teammate John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) also earned a win at No. 2 doubles against Dayton's Karl and Langford Hills, 6-3.

Richmond is 6-2 overall after winning three-straight matches and has a 1-1 A-10 conference record. The Spiders will play two more road matches against Binghamton (Feb. 22) and at Navy on Feb. 23.
