Spiders Break Program Record, Post Strong Results

The Spiders again had two meets on the books, one at Virginia Military Institute for the Winter Relay Invitational and one at Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The highlight of the weekend was the women's 4x400 relay program record being reset in Boston.Â
A small contingent of Spider women traveled to the David Hemery Invitational. The 4x400 relay raced by freshmen Rachel Helbling and Tamar Accius, junior Maria Acosta and sophomore Brooke Fazio for a time of 3:43.38 at the David Hemery Invitational. The previous indoor record was set in 2013 at a time of 3:50.27 by Mary Allen, Amber Young, Deborah Fajuyigbe and Jade Gregory.Â
The rest of the Spiders traveled to Lexington for the VMI Relay Meet. Â
For the women, junior Claire Brown raced in the 1000M and took third overall with a time of 2:56.73. Junior Haley Berkeley, freshmen Amaya Jackson and Tania Matthews in the 60 meter hurdles event. Matthews placed seventh overall with a time of 9.01. Berkeley placed 23rd with a time of 9.41 and Jackson took 30th overall with a time of 9.90. Berkeley also competed in the long jump event, Jackson in the 400M, who placed 23rd overall (1:00.25) and Matthews in the 200M event. Caroline Robelen raced in the women's mile. Robelen took seventh overall with a time of 5:11.20. Kayla Woods competed in three events on the weekend: the long jump, the 600M and the 200M. She was joined in the 200M by Zenia Vrakas and in the long jump by Grace Mittl. Kendra Smither was the lone Spider in the 800M event, taking fourth overall with a time of 2:18.45, the top freshman in the event. In the 60M sprints, Woods (7.94), Rebekah Greene (8.10) and Morgan Towe (8.22) competed taking 18th, 26th and 35th respectively. Woods and Greene took second and third in the first heat, Tower took fifth in heat eight.
For the men, Will Alpaugh raced in the 1K event, claiming third overall with a time of 2:32.03. Freshman Noah Campbell in the 3K event, taking eleventh overall with a time of 8:43.72.
