
Richmond Drops Home Match Against ECU

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team lost a home match against ECU, 4-0, Saturday at Westhampton Tennis Courts.
The Spiders (7-8) lost the doubles point after falling just short on court three. Junior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados) and sophomore Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) won 6-3 against Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) and Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) fell to Celia Ruiz and Minette Van Vreden, 6-2.
In the deciding doubles match, junior Lyndell Giffenig (Salisbury, Conn.) and sophomore Adrienne Haynes (Asheville, N.C.) lost to Nastja Rettich and Hsia Ho Chiao, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles. Haynes and Giffenig were down 5-2 before winning two-straight games but fell short.
In singles action, Diercksen won in straight sets against Zlateva, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. At No. 2 singles, Ruiz took down Marshall, 6-1, 6-2.
The Pirates clinched the match with a straight-sets win at No. 6 singles as Rettich won against Haynes, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Helene Heiberg (Oslo, Norway) won the first set 6-3 and was tied 2-2 in the second set. Dunbar lost the first set 3-6 and was winning 5-2 in the second set. At No. 4 singles, Owens won the first set, 6-4 but was down 2-3 in the second.
Richmond will host UNCG on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at the Westhampton Tennis Courts.
