Collom Finishes Third, Spiders Fourth At Hoya Invitational
04/09/2019 | Women's Golf
BEALSVILLE, Md. – With only one more tournament guaranteed in her college career, senior Annie Collom registered her best finish in a full-field event Tuesday at the Hoya Invitational at Four Streams Golf Club. Collom shot a two-over 74 in the third and final round to finish the event at 220 (+4), placing her third in the field of 46.
Collom and fellow senior Sophie DiPetrillo, who finished in 10th place at 229 (+13), led the Spiders to a fourth-place finish in the eight-team field. Richmond completed the 54-hole event with a total score of 917, 53 strokes over par.
Entering the week, Collom's only career top-five finishes in full-field tournaments were a pair of fourth-place results at the 2016 Bulldog Florida Invitational and the 2017 Navy Fall Invitational. (Collom was the top finisher in Richmond's 36-hole match vs Columbia last October.) Collom's total of 220 (+4) is the lowest of her career and tied for the ninth-best 54-hole total in program history.
Richmond will conclude its regular-season schedule on April 20-21 when the Spiders host the Patriot League Women's Golf Championship at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va. Coach Ali Wright is looking forward to getting her team back on its home course, noting that "everyone will have a plan to work on a few things to sharpen up" before conference title. The Spiders are seeking to win their fourth straight Patriot League title.
