Tulane Transfer Connor Crabtree Signs With Spiders
05/17/2019 | Men's Basketball
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Connor Crabtree, who started 15 games as a freshman for Tulane last season, has signed with the Spiders and will transfer to Richmond, head coach Chris Mooney announced Friday.
Crabtree, a 6'6" guard, averaged 7.1 points per game for the Green Wave last season, fourth most on the team. After coming off the bench for the first 15 games of the season, Crabtree made his first career start vs Memphis on January 13 and went on to start 15 of Tulane's final 16 games. Crabtree finished 2018-19 as the sixth-highest scoring freshman in the American Athletic Conference and averaged 11.1 points while shooting 50 percent from the field (33-66) over his final 10 games of the season.
Crabtree was Tulane's leading scorer in three games last season, including a season-high 23-point effort vs East Carolina on February 23. He also led the team in both three-point field goal percentage (minimum 60 attempts) at 36.7 percent and free-throw percentage at 80.3 percent.
Prior to Tulane, Crabtree prepped at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., averaging 21.4 points per game in 2017-18. Before that, Crabtree was a three-time letterman at Orange High School in Hillsborough, N.C., earning AP All-State honors as a senior in 2017 after averaging 26 points per game. A native of Winchester, Va., Crabtree once played for the Winchester Rising Stars AAU program, same as new teammate and fellow Winchester native Grant Golden. (Although they played for the same organization, the two were never teammates.)
As an undergraduate Division I transfer, Crabtree will sit out the 2019-20 season, per NCAA regulations. He will be eligible to play in 2020-21 and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He is the second member of what will be the Spiders Class of 2023. Tyler Burton, a 6'6" forward from Marianapolis Prep in Thompson, Ct., signed with the Spiders in November. He was named a Second Team All-State selection by USA TODAY in April.
