RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond placed 170 student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Conference 2018-19 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes excellence in the classroom in sports sponsored by the conference.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, this is the second consecutive year the Commissioner's Honor Roll has been based on the entire academic year. Previously the award was granted following each semester. To be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award.
The women's track and cross country program led the way for the Spiders with 30 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Women's lacrosse, soccer and baseball were tied for second with 23 student-athletes honored. Field hockey was fifth with 20 student-athletes while women's swimming/diving (11), women's basketball (9), men's cross country (8), women's tennis (8), men's basketball (7), men's golf (5) and men's tennis (3) were also honored. Richmond had the most student-athletes selected in the sport of field hockey in the entire A-10.
The Atlantic 10 Conference set a league record with 3,290 unique student-athletes receiving Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction in 2018-19. The 3,290 honorees tops last year's high-water mark of 3,168 unique student-athletes. In previous years, the yearly Commissioner's Honor Roll number was calculated by combining the fall and spring semester totals.
As a conference, the 2018-19 class is 63.6 percent female, while 36.4 percent were male student-athletes. The class was also made up of 28.1 percent (923 total honorees) freshmen, 24.4 percent (802 total) sophomores, 24.6 percent (808 total) juniors and 21.5 percent (706 total) seniors. There were 51 graduate students honored, comprising 1.6 percent of the class.
Conference-wide, women's Track & Field/Cross Country had 442 student-athletes honored, and led all sports, followed by Men's Track & Field/Cross Country with 350, Women's Soccer with 319, Rowing (261) and Baseball (256).
The Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll only includes Richmond student-athletes from A-10 sponsored sports so no members from football, men's lacrosse or women's golf are eligible. A complete list of honorees is included with this release.
