06/07/2019 | Women's Soccer
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team will play a challenging 19-game schedule in 2019, announced by head coach Marty Beall Friday.
"I'm really excited about this schedule," Beall said. "We have some really tough non-conference games, both at home and on the road, which will prepare us for our very difficult A-10 schedule. I know we have a highly motivated team and I'm confident they will rise to the challenge."
After a scrimmage at UNCW on Aug. 10, the Spiders host Longwood for the home opener at Presidents Field at River Road on Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. Richmond holds a 5-4-3 all-time record against the Lancers and have played them 12 years in a row.
The Spiders will head out on the road and play East Carolina for the second-straight season on Aug. 25 in Greenville, N.C. Richmond returns home to face UNCG for the second-straight season on Aug. 30. The Spartans are the defending Southern Conference Tournament Champions.
Richmond will have a road test at Delaware on Sept. 1 in Newark, Delaware. The Spiders return home for two home games against Elon (Sept. 5) and American (Sept. 8). Richmond played both teams on the road in 2018.
The final three nonconference games will all be played on the road starting at Hampton (Sept. 8), at Coastal Carolina (Sept. 15) and at Towson (Sept. 19).
Atlantic 10 play starts on the road at UMass on Sept. 22 in Amherst, Massachusetts. The Spiders return home for two conference games against La Salle on Sept. 26 and Fordham (Sept. 29).
Richmond will face Duquesne on the road on Oct. 3 before returning home on Oct. 6 to host George Washington. The Spiders head back out on the road at St. Bonaventure on Oct. 13 before a home game against crosstown rival VCU on Oct. 17.
The Spiders travel to Rhode Island on Oct. 20 and take on defending A-10 Tournament Champion Saint Louis on the road on Oct. 24. The regular season wraps up with a matchup against Saint Joseph's on Oct. 27.
Richmond enters the 2019 campaign with 12 freshmen, two transfers and 22 returners in Beall's second season at the helm. Leading scorers Brooke Beam (Senior) and TJ Anderson (Junior) return after scoring two goals apiece last season.
