NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its 2019-20 schedule on Thursday as the Spiders will play VCU, La Salle and St. Bonaventure twice this season.
"The A-10 will be an incredibly tough conference this year with a lot of improved teams," head coach Aaron Roussell said. "We are excited to grow as a team in the preseason and in non-conference play; and I trust that this group will be ready for an intense journey through the A-10 schedule."
Richmond will begin the 16-game A-10 conference slate with two road games at Saint Joseph's on January 4 and at Rhode Island on Jan. 7.
The Spiders welcome Dayton to the Robins Center on January 12. The Flyers went to the WNIT last season after finishing fourth in the A-10 with a 10-6 record.
The 83rd meeting against cross-town rival VCU will be just down the road at the Siegal Center on Jan. 17 sponsored by Sonabank/P.O.W.E.R. VCU holds a slight advantage in the all-time series at 42-40 with their record dating back to 1941.
Richmond two more home games in January against La Salle (Jan. 23) and Davidson (Jan. 26). The Wildcats were 10-6 in the A-10 last season and earned a berth in the WBI postseason tournament.
The Spiders will play its lone national TV game on the road at UMass on Feb. 2 broadcasted on NBCSN at noon. Richmond will then host St. Bonaventure (Feb. 2) and VCU (Feb. 9) to tip off the month of February.
Four road games in February start with a second meeting at La Salle on Feb. 9. Other road games in the month at George Mason (Feb. 19), at St. Bonaventure (Feb. 23) and finish the regular season at George Washington on Feb. 29.
The Robins Center will host three top teams from a season ago in Duquesne (Feb. 12), defending A-10 tournament champs Fordham on Feb. 16 and Saint Louis in the home finale on Feb. 26.
"I, personally, am really excited about our first season in the league," said Roussell. "Going against new teams, coaches, and seeing new places will be a fun part of the next six months."
