Baker's Ace Leads Spiders At River Run Collegiate
09/23/2019 | Men's Golf
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Less than one month into his collegiate career, Lou Baker already has a perfect shot on his Richmond résumé. Baker, a freshman from Timonium, Md., concluded his first 18 holes at Davidson's River Run Collegiate in style on Monday morning, acing the 163-yard fourth hole on his final swing of the first round.
Baker's hole-in-one, the first of his golfing career, moved him into red figures at one-under par after an opening round 71. After offsetting five bogeys with four birdies and the aforementioned eagle in round one, Baker recorded a far less eventful round of 69 in Monday afternoon's second round, carding three birdies and 15 pars. Through 36 holes, he is tied for third at four-under-par (140) in the 88-man field.
As a team, the Spiders are seventh in the 15-team field with a team score of 594 (+18). Richmond was in 13th place after an opening-round 304 (+16) but fired a two-over round of 290 (+2) in round two, third-best in the field. After having just one golfer, Baker, break 75 in the first round, all five Spiders shot 74 or lower on Monday afternoon as Richmond moved up six spots on the leaderboard.
Sophomore Michael Childress is tied for 36th place on the individual leaderboard at six-over par following rounds of 76 and 74 on Monday. Two more Spiders are in the top 50: junior Michael Baker and senior Andrew Sciarretta, both of whom are tied for 46th at eight-over par (152).
The tournament will conclude with round three on Tuesday. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:45 AM.
