Women’s Track Opens 2020 At VMI Keydet Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team opens the 2020 calendar year this weekend as it travels to Lexington, Va., for the annual VMI Keydet Invitational Friday and Saturday. Live results for the event will be available at www.richmondspiders.com.
The Spiders will take 19 student-athletes to the meet. Junior Brooke Fazio (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and senior Maria Acosta (Maywood, N.J.) lead the way both competing in the 1000-meter event. Fazio last season won the 500-meter race at the VMI Keydet Invitational and owns a time of 2:49.71 as a career-best set last year at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. Acosta came in third in the 500-meter event last year at VMI and will be racing in her first 1000-meter event of her career.
Sophomore Kayla Woods (Wilmington, Del.) will take part in three events this weekend in the long jump, 60-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. Woods took home second place in the long jump last year at the VMI Keydet Invitational with a distance of 5.72m. She posted a career-best 5.90m jump while winning the George Mason Invitational last year.
