Sherod to Miss 2020-21 Season With Knee Injury
10/19/2020 | Men's Basketball
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. --Â Spiders guard Nick Sherod will miss the 2020-21 season after tearing the ACL in his right knee, head coach Chris Mooney announced on Monday. Sherod, a redshirt senior, injured his knee at practice on Thursday, October 15th.
Â
"Our entire program is heartbroken for Nick," said Mooney. "He has been the most consistently excellent student-athlete in our Spider family and an outstanding player, teammate and leader during his career. While his basketball accomplishments are extremely impressive, his off-the-court contributions to our program are immeasurable. Nick is a captain of our team and we know he will remain one of our leaders through this challenging time."
Â
Sherod started 31 games for the Spiders last season, averaging 12.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He made a team-high 78 three-pointers and shot 43.8 percent from three-point range, best in the Atlantic 10 and 10th-highest in Division I among qualifiers. With Sherod in the starting lineup for every game, Richmond finished 24-7 -- tying the school record for wins in the regular season -- and 14-4 in the Atlantic 10.Â
Â
Sherod received a medical redshirt in 2018-19 after missing the final 27 games of the season with a torn left ACL he suffered against Hampton on November 25th.Â
At Richmond, Sherod has totaled 1,192 points, 33rd most in school history, while appearing in 104 games for an average of 11.5 points per game. He ranks ninth in Spiders history in career three-pointers, with 187, and eighth in three-point field goal percentage among those with at least 100 three-points attempts, at 39.4 percent.Â
