UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond men's golf coach Adam Decker announced the addition of two members to the program on Thursday, the second day student-athletes graduating high school in 2021 could sign their National Letter of Intent.
Cole Ekert from Chatham High School in Chatham, New Jersey has decided to attend Richmond and compete for the Spiders. Ekert is currently the top-ranked boys player in New Jersey according to Junior Golf Scoreboard. This summer, Ekert finished second in the Metropolitan Golf Association's Carter Cup, the organization's boys stroke play championship, and third in the MGA's Boys Match Play Championship. He also registered a ninth-place finish at the NJSGA Amateur Championship in August and won the NJPGA Junior Section Championship in June. In 2019, he led Chatham to county and sectional championships -- earning individual medalist honors at both events -- and was a First Team All-State Selection by the New Jersey PGA. Ekert also hosts an annual charity outing called the Juniors Fore Goryeb to benefit his local children's hospital, an event that has rasied more than $70,000 over the last three years.
Joining Ekert in the Spiders Class of 2021 is Patrick Isztwan from William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. Penn Charter competes in the Inter-Academic League, where Isztwan is a two-time individual league champion. This summer, Isztwan won the Golf Association of Philadelphia's Christman Cup and tied for fifth in the AJGA's Imperial Headwear Junior Classic, one of his two top-five finishes in AJGA events. Isztwan finished 12th at the 2019 Pennsylvania Golf Association Junior Boys Championship and fourth in the event in 2018. In 2020, he has been named an AJGA Scholastic Junior All-American and the 2020 Golf Association of Philadelphia's Junior Sportsperson of the Year. Isztwan's brother Brian, plays on the men's golf team at Harvard.
