Spiders Receive Record 40 Votes in AP Preseason Poll

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond men's basketball team received 40 votes in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 Poll released on Monday, the Spiders best showing ever in the AP's preseason poll. Richmond's 40 votes were the 32nd most among all teams and the most for any team in the Atlantic 10.Â
The only other season in which the Spiders were represented in the AP preseason poll was 2010-11, when Richmond received 17 votes, 34th among all teams.
The 40 votes the Spiders received in the poll released on Monday are their most in any AP poll since the final poll of the 2010-11 season, which was released prior to Richmond's run to the 2011 Sweet 16. The Spiders received 47 votes in that poll, which was released on March 14, 2011.Â
Saint Louis was the only other Atlantic 10 team represented in this year's preseason top 25. The Billikens received eight votes.Â
The Spiders received six votes in the final AP poll of the 2019-20 season after finishing the season with a 24-7 record, including wins in nine of their final 10 games. Richmond has now received votes in three straight AP Top 25 polls dating back to last season.Â
