UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Spiders sophomore Tyler Burton has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Burton, a 6'7" forward, averaged 15.7 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range in three games last week as the Spiders posted a 2-1 record. This is the first weekly A-10 honor of Burton's career.Â
Last Monday, Burton posted 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds in Richmond's win over Wofford at the Robins Center. Two days later, Burton recorded career highs with 21 points and 13 rebounds as the Spiders defeated Northern Iowa. Burton became the first Spider freshman or sophomore with at least 21 points and 13 rebounds in a game since Dan Geriot in 2007. On Sunday against 11th-ranked West Virginia, Burton led Richmond with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Spiders 87-71 loss.Â
Burton is the first Spider to register consecutive double-doubles since Grant Golden in 2018 against Old Dominion and High Point. He is averaging 13.2 points and and a team-high 9.0 rebounds in five games this season.
Burton joins Nathan Cayo, who was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week on November 30th, as Spiders to earn weekly A-10 honors so far this season. With Jacob Gilyard, Grant Golden, and Blake Francis all being named to the A-10's Preseason All-Conference Teams in November, Richmond's entire starting lineup has been honored by the conference in some way this season.
Richmond will head to Nashville this week for a Wednesday matchup against Vanderbilt (1 PM, SEC Network) before traveling to Indianapolis for a neutral-site game against Loyola-Chicago on Friday.Â
