Spiders Pick Up A Pair Of 2020 Recruits
02/21/2020 | Men's Tennis
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team picked up a pair of 2020 recruits in Sebastian Miano (Barcelona, Spain) and Alaister Burke (Richmond, Va.), announced by head coach Houston Barrick Friday.
"We are so excited to welcome both Alaister and Sebastian to the program," Barrick said. "Sebastian was someone we built a great relationship with early on in the recruiting process. He fits the mold of what we are looking for in a student athlete here at Richmond. He is going to excel in the classroom, and on the court during his time here at UR. Alaister is someone we have known for many of years. He is one of the top local players and someone who has some great potential. Like Sebastian and Daniel, Alaister fits with the student-athlete model here at UR."
Miano is from Barcelona, Spain but was born in Italy. He has played high school tennis at the International School and trained at the Casal Sanchez Academy. Miano holds a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) rating of 11. At the Circuit Absolut open, Miano went 3-1 in singles play, winning three-straight matches. Miano also has played in a couple of ITA Summer Circuit events in 2019 going 5-3 combined in singles in the men's A flight.
Burke is a local player from St. Christopher's School in Richmond. Burke was named to the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro team and a first team all-state selection. Burke had an outstanding junior season going undefeated in singles and doubles playing the No. 1 position. Burke won the deciding match in St. Christopher's state title match against Potomac. He is ranked as a three-star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net. Burke is the ninth best recruit in the state of Virginia.
Miano and Burke will join the Spiders for the 2020 fall season. For more information about the Richmond men's tennis team visit RichmondSpiders.com or follow us on twitter at spidermten.
