Gouger Sets an Atlantic 10 Record on Day Three of the Atlantic 10 Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – Day three of the Atlantic 10 Championships ended with the Spiders jumping up to fourth place after an impressive showing Friday night. Five Spiders competed in the championship finals of their respective races, with six competing in the consolation finals. The Spiders moved into fourth place with 318.5 points, trailing the leader George Washington's 424 points. Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.) took the 100-yard backstroke for the fourth-straight season, becoming the first person in Atlantic 10 history to win the event four-straight times.
The 400 individual medley saw sophomore Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) take home a silver medal after a season-best time of 4:17.09. Ellie Ronan (Marblehead, Mass.) added a seventh-place finish at 4:21.78, nearly four seconds faster than her previous season best. Lexie Gilbert (Annapolis, Md.) qualified for the consolation final, earning the 10th place finish with a time of 4:19.80.
The 100 butterfly saw Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.) earn a 10th place finish with a. 55.67 time, two seconds superior to her previous season best. Eliza Manning (Frederick County, Md.) and Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) added the top two times in the consolation final, finishing at 1:49.78, and 1:50.25, both season bests. Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.) added a 15th-place finish at 1:51.85 in the 200 free. Sarah Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.) added a ninth-place finish and the top time in the consolation final at 1:03.28 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.) and Jordan Kohut (Raleigh, N.C.) took home the top two times in the 100-backstroke. Gouger and Kohut both hit NCAA B cut times, finishing in 53.75 and 53.88, respectively for the top two times in the meet. Mattie Williams (Lake George, N.Y.), who earned a spot in the final by winning a swim off at the end of the preliminary round, took sixth with a time of 55.55. Gouger made history
3-meter diving saw senior Sydney Weiskopf (Clifton Park, N.Y.) turned in a 10th place finish, scoring a 262.20 to earn seven points for the team. Maddy Chao (Niskayuna, N.Y.) finished in 15th at 235.75.
The 400medley relay closed out the night. The Spider quartet of Gouger, Purcell, O'Shaughnessy and Medline finished in second place at 3:41.62 to earn 34 team points.
The final day of the Atlantic 10 Championships will be held tomorrow at the SPIRE Institute. The preliminary rounds will begin at 10 a.m., with finals occurring at 6 p.m.
