Women’s Track & Field Wins DMR, Long Jump at A-10 Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team reached the top of the podium in the Distance Medley Relay and the Long Jump Saturday at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship.
The Spiders sit in fourth place, tied with host Rhode Island with 21 points, after six events scored at the Mackal Field House.
Sophomore Kayla Woods (Wilmington, Del.) won the long jump with a personal best distance of 5.91 meters, collecting 10 points for the Spiders.
Spider quartet of freshman Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.), sophomore Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.), freshman Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J.) and senior Claire Brown (Erie, Pa.) defended their title in the Distance Medley Relay for a fourth-straight year. Together, they posted a time of 11:47.39 to collect 10 points.
Snow ran the 1200-meter opening leg in 3:38.47, while in the 400-meter leg, Helbling turned in a time of 55.41. McAndrew posted a time of 2:18.32 in the 800-meter leg while Brown came from behind running the 1600-meter leg in 4:55.19 to win the event with a time of 11:47.39.
In the 5000-meters, junior Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.) finished eighth, tallying a point to the Spiders team total, with a time 17:29.97.
In preliminary races, the Spiders had six student-athletes advance to race in the finals of six different events on Sunday.
Freshman Kamryn Ross (Richmond, Va.) took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.72.
Sophomore Tamar Accius (Jacksonville, Fla.) advanced to the finals in two events. In the 60-meter dash, she tuned in a time of 7.71, finishing seventh, while in the 200-meters she posted a time of 25.30 winning her heat and finishing eighth overall.
Senior Maria Acosta (Maywood, N.J.) and junior Brooke Fazio (Basking Ridge, N.J.) finished in third and fourth-place, respectively, in the 800-meters. Acosta posted a time of 2:12.98 while Fazio crossed the finish line at 2:14.18.
Helbling posted a time of 1:15.10 to win her heat and finish third overall in the 500-meters. McAndrew took third in the 1000-meters with a personal best time of 2:52.89.
