Key A10 Road Win At Rhode Island Re-Airs On ESPN Richmond Monday At 6pm
03/19/2020 | General, Men's Basketball
Week two of ESPN Richmond's re-airing of memorable Spider men's basketball broadcasts from the 2019-20 season tips off with the first Atlantic 10 road game on the first Sunday of 2020 at Rhode Island. The game was as much about who wasn't on the court as who was for the Spiders. Jacob Gilyard went to the bench with his second foul with nine minutes to go in the first half and his team trailing by three. The visitors went on an 18-4 run, led 30-19 at halftime, and never looked back. Nathan Cayo delivered his first career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and the defensive duo of Blake Francis and Andre Gustavson limited the A10's leading scorer, Fatts Russell (20 ppg) to three points on 1-12 shooting.  The Spiders served notice, home or away, they would be an A10 contender.Â
Steal-and-a-score from Gilyard, spin move-and-one from Golden, downtown from Sherod, off the dribble by Francis, rim-rattling dunks from Cayo and Burton, a Woj-bomb or a Finnish finish from the Goose, the 2019-20 Richmond Spiders men's basketball team gave their fans one memory after another. Now, for six nights over the next two weeks, those memories will come back to life and on-the-air.Â
ESPN Richmond, the radio home of the Spiders for 14 consecutive years, will air full game broadcasts Monday through Wednesday, March 23-25 and March 30-April 1. Air time is 6pm, immediately following Hardly Workin' with Greg Burton. Voice of the Spiders Bob Black will host, setting the stage with a reminder of the top plays, players and significance of the game. Â
By following twitter posts from @spidervoice, @espnrichmond, @spidermbb or @SpiderAthletics, fans can reply with their favorite games – home or away, conference or non-conference, blow out or nail biter. Then be listening for the rebroadcasts from the Spider Sports Network announce teams of Black and Greg Beckwith or Robert Fish and Matt Smith on 99.5 and 102.7 FM and 950 AM ESPN, and online at espnrichmond.com and RichmondSpiders.com.Â
It's not March Madness, but it was a special season to remember.Â
